Custom Policy and Procedure Manuals

The Policy and Procedure Manual sets the course for your employees and interacting with the business.

Your Business Procedure manual describes the relationship your company will have with the employee. In many instances, the procedure manual is considered a cumbersome part of the business, that many will say under prioritize.

Not Updating Your Procedure Manual Can Be Costly

One Physician we were worked with liked to run his clinic by the cuff. If there was a problem, he would make a decision and move on. Many of these changes would go un-recorded in the policy and procedure manual. Once he had dismissed his disgruntled front desk employee, this approach cost him. The front desk person had read the policy and procedure manual, signed she understood it. The physician had described different benefits, time off, etc when she was hired than what was in the Business Procedure Manual.

When the released employee went to the NC Labor and Security Commission, she referenced the Procedure Manual for unpaid vacation time, and other benefits. The physician spoke directly and honestly with the NC representative that he was specific with the employee that those benefits were not available. The next morning, another representative went by the office, requested the policy manual and former employee signed agreement. The physician was required to pay over $1,000 in benefits and some penalties associated with unkept records in other areas.
